The “Clean Background” icon removes problems in your background, and “Clean Foreground” eliminates issues with your subject in front of the Green Screen. But, at least in my case, Auto Define Key was faster. You may also do this process “manually” in Primatte Keyer like you would in Premiere and After Effects by selecting the eye dropper and clicking on the green you want removed. Select “Auto Define Key” and immediately the “green” in your green screen is replaced with your background with almost no artifacts. When you first open Primatte Keyer, drag the effect onto your video.

I won’t go into detail on how to set up a green screen shot on your timeline, instead I’ll just explain the operation of Primatte Keyer itself. It spells everything out visually as well as aurally and talks you through some of the fine-tuning features.

I highly recommend viewing their “ Getting Started with Primatte Keyer 6” available for download on Red Giant’s website. I do understand both Premiere and After Effect’s keyers and they function quite well, but Primatte Keyer is easier and, in my opinion, faster.

Then there’s things called spill suppression. Then there’s things that you can do is around the matte. You need to work on this a little bit more but that’s about the best we can do there. You’re going to see some stuff down here still and you’re going to see this junk up here. The white is what you’re going to see and the black is what you’re not going to see. You can test your work by going from composite here to alpha channels so you can see what’s going to come through. Pedestal is also dealing with brightness. Tolerance means how wide of how green you really want to work with there but that’s okay. It cuts a little of the shirt a little bit there, you got to be careful about that because it’s a black shirt against a black shadow. I dont’ think we don’t need to do these shadows too much but we could try that.
