StrEAT’s restaurant will include first-floor dining, a bar and entertainment complex, and a rooftop beer garden, according to the Las Vegas Sun. HENDERSON - A new 13,000-square-foot restaurant coming to Water Street plans to have room for four food trucks and an esports space. The Tea Lounge remains and MOZen converts into Zen Kitchen. Chef Pierre Gagnaire remains with Twist, while SkyBar on the 23rd floor takes over Mandarin Bar. If I can get this price again in the future with plus/minus the same benefits, will definitely come back.THE STRIP - As expected, the Waldorf Astoria officially took over Mandarin Oriental on Friday. If I paid $700+ a night for the hotel, my review wouldn’t be as rosy. We paid about $260+ a night, which came with breakfast (via amex) and food credit (via Hilton), which is a fair price. Thankfully reception (Michael) noticed that one of my AMEX credits was not automatically included, which would have meant that I pay $125 more than I needed to. When the final bill comes, you must double check to ensure that you do get the rebates you’re entitled too. The negative: WA is clearing working to break from the shadows as the ‘Old Mandarin,’ so it’s understandable when comments read ‘not as good as before.’ I booked via AMEX fine hotels and have Hilton Gold status, which gave me rebates on food and hotel activities. The lobby staff are constantly aware of everything happening on the ground (freeway traffic, conventions, weather, etc), which is often taken for granted and definitely underappreciated. He coordinated with the concierge Hailey (also an amazing ambassador) to help us with reservations. Prior to a trip to the Boneyard museum, he was quick to flag to us that we needed to pre-book tickets. Josh, the lobby greeter, is a great ambassador to the hotel.
On the positive: the WA is an ideal location, smack in the middle of the Vegas strip, which is perfect for those looking for an evening stroll to admire all the casino lights. For personal travel to Las Vegas, there are other options at both ends of the strip that offer a far greater value for your money. If you're staying on business, need to stay in a property that has upscale rooms, superior service, and no casino, and can get reimbursed for the excessive charges, then this might be an OK choice. After a few bumps on check-in, the staff was very friendly, attentive, and proactive in contacting us. The positive area that sets this property apart from other properties that we've stayed at is the service. So, that rate you find on the website/travel aggregator whatever is going to be $80 *a day* (plus tax, of course) lower than what you actually pay. However, the big charges are in the resort fee (a whopping $45/night) and parking (they have mandatory valet parking-unless you want to self park over at the Aria every day) for $35 a day. The room was nice, but smaller than what we usually have at about the same price. This was our first time at this hotel, trying something new over the places that we normally stay at (Cosmo, Aria, Venetian/Palazzo, Wynn/Encore). My wife and I stayed here for 6 days during the first half of the NFR, which we come to every year.
